The education of our children has become a campaign of secular thought and values. This has been quite a change from public education just a few decades ago. In public schools today, children learn about sexual freedom1, evolution, and even the pillars of Islam2. These secular and anti-christian values are taught unopposed. Meanwhile, organized prayer and the reading of the Bible out loud is strongly opposed.3

The state and counties of North Carolina spend an average of $8,451 per year on each child’s education.4 The state places a tremendous value on the education our children.5 With resources like these, the state is a Goliath of secular force. Against such a force, who stands to educate the children of western North Carolina with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? How will such children believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher?6

Goliath’s challenge still rings today in our changing culture: “Give me a man that we may fight together.”7 of course, the church is a voice to reach children with the gospel. However, one survey shows that churches dedicate 3% of their budgets to children’s ministries while 86% is devoted to personnel1, administration, and building expenses.8

Child Evangelism Fellowship is like a modern David fighting the good fight of faith against the secular Goliath of our changing culture. Right now, Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Carolina, Inc., Asheville Chapter holds a weekly Bible club called the After-School Good News Club (ASGNC). Currently, there are 141 of these ASGNC’s with over 7,509 children in attendance.

In October of 2015, CEF gained permission to hold ASGNC in Henderson and Haywood counties. We have a huge door open! Yes, Goliath is big, but we have an even bigger God.

CEF is also instrumental in reaching our young people through Christian Youth In Action (CYIA). During six weeks of intense summer and biblical training young people learn how to teach what we call, “5-Day Clubs.”

Many of the children reached through the efforts of CEF would not otherwise hear the message of forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus Christ. Through your support of CEF, you can know that 100% of your support is spent directly on CEF’s primary mission to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel, and to establish them in the Word of God in a local church.

In 2010 the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Carolina, Inc., Asheville Chapter was struggling due to the poor health of our Director at the time, Catherine Beck. Nevertheless, that first year, we ministered to 600 children.

In 2015, we ministered to 2,500, and as of November 2016, we have ministered to 3,500 children. We are excited about what God is doing! We are amazed at how God is blessing us in spite of our limited budget, only one full-time staff person, and we only have 100 or so volunteers. Please pray that God will see fit to add to our ministry.

We are in a rebuilding stage and are making steps to see more children saved. In 2011, we shared Christ with 300 children. Last year we shared Christ with 2,500 children. This year, we hope to share Christ with over 3,000 children. It is tremendous growth but, “What are these among so many?” We still have a long way to go!

Many of the children you see around you each day will never hear of the message that their sins can be forgiven by faith in Jesus Christ unless we undertake to reach them. This is the vision of Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Carolina, Inc., Asheville Chapter, and this is our mission.  Our core responsibilities to achieving this mission are:

  • Evangelize lost children.
  • Establish the children in a local church.
  • Disciple them in the Word of God.
  • Enable local churches to do the same.

These dreams are being fulfilled because they are inspired by God!

Child Evangelism Fellowship is the world’s largest evangelistic outreach to children. Last year, CEF reached over 19.9 million children! With our unique ministries, training and materials we carry out the Great Commission.

We are praying to the Lord that He would send out more laborers into the harvest field to reach more children with the Gospel. We need more workers throughout the United States and in every country of the world. Perhaps you are an answer to our prayers.

Will you join us in reaching the world’s most fruitful mission field – the children? We have many ways you can serve.
